High load carrying capacity with very small cross sections

Axial ball bearings and axial cylindrical roller bearings are suitable for supporting high axial loads. However, these bearings should not be loaded in a radial direction and, on account of their cross section, require a relatively large radial installation space in the adjacent construction. Furthermore, single direction designs only support axial loads in one direction. Yet applications frequently call for compact, load-bearing and rigid solutions, which can reliably support combined loads and moments with one bearing arrangement.

The quality of a bearing arrangement is decisively influenced by the components – shaft, housing, seal – that are directly adjacent to the bearing. Seals play a decisive role in protecting bearings against contamination. If inadequate seals are used, contaminants can penetrate the bearing or an unacceptably large quantity of lubricant may escape from the bearing. Solid contaminants lead to wear and/or fatigue of the raceways and rolling elements.

A comprehensive assessment of the cause of failures in yoke and stud type track rollers in relation to the specific application has shown that only a very small proportion of failures are caused by rolling contact fatigue. The factors which are far more significant for premature failure are wear of the outer ring, inadequate lubrication and tilted running. New designs have been developed which optimize the running characteristics of yoke and stud type track rollers and give significantly longer operating life values.

Drawn cup roller clutches are high precision machine elements with a very low radial section height. They have a thin-walled, drawn outer ring with ramps on the inside diameter. Needle rollers are used as the clamping elements. The rolling elements are guided by plastic cages. Steel or plastic springs hold the needle rollers in their clamped position.
