The customer is a leading worldwide manufacturer and spare parts supplier in the power transmission sector, and also develops individual solutions for his own customers, who come from the industrial and automotive sectors. Challenge for Schaeffler: The drive shaft (propshaft) is the component that is subjected to the most severe load in industrial drive trains. The force is transferred from the motor in a complicated manner by way of a universal joint, which means that a redirectdi- on of the rotary axis takes place. The onset of damage here is difficult to detect and in most cases means high production downtime costs.

Quick Reconditioning of a Rotor Bearing in an Air Preheater

The customer is a leading power generating company in Germany and Europe. Challenge for Schaeffler: Air preheaters in a power plant are used for preheating the air needed for the combustion process. If a preheater fails due to technical problems, that often means that the entire power plant unit has to be shut down. The air preheater is supported in a spherical roller thrust bearing. In the case in hand, this bearing was so badly worn that one of two power plant units had to be shut down. As a consequence the production was reduced by 50 percent. The bearing had to be reconditioned immediately.

Industrial gearboxes are being designed as increasingly compact with smaller design envelope while their power levels are continually increasing. This increase in power density within a very small space places increasingly high demands on the rolling bearings used. This is particularly true for planetary gearboxes in industrial gearboxes, since such gearboxes must transmit very high power levels with high operational security within a very small design envelope. In more than a few cases, the planetary gears in particular are subjected to loads up to their physical limits. At the same time, the planetary carriers and planetary studs are subjected to heavy reversed bending loads.

Low Friction Cylindrical Roller Bearings LSL, ZSL

Conventional cylindrical roller bearings are proven components that have been used in gearboxes as well as machines and equipment for decades now. However, modern assemblies call for more compact designs with increased performance requirements. It is here that conventional full-complement bearings and cylindrical roller bearings with standard cages often reach their limits, and unwanted compromises must often be made when parts for the application are designed. INA has changed all that by combining the high static and dynamic load ratings of a full complement bearing with the high limiting speeds of a cage guided bearing. The result of this revolutionary development: The low-friction cylindrical roller bearings, series LSL and ZSL.
